Canterbury historic river tours.

The tour lasts between 30 and 40 minutes. Firstly, we take you up to a small Franciscan island at one end of the city, which is also known as The Greyfriars. The island is home to a wonderful little chapel from the 13th century which spans the river, and is the oldest example of Franciscan architecture in the country. 

We then pass under the 12th century Eastbridge Hospital and the King's Bridge (1134), continuing down river past some industrial buildings from the medieval period, including The Old Weavers House, The Kings Mill, and the Cromwellian iron forge. 

After some wonderful views of the cathedral, the tour then passes through the Dominican priories which were built by the Blackfriars in the 14th century, and ends up in a peaceful garden area, that was the site of the old Abbots Mill in the city. 

We then return to our starting point which is home to the infamous ducking stool.

The Kent Showground, formerly (and still colloquially) known as the Kent County Showground is an area of land in Detling, Kent, England, north of the county town of Maidstone. Stretching along the north side of the A249 from the top of Detling Hill, formerly RAF Detling, it is home to the Kent County Agricultural Society who host the probably the venue's most well known event, the Kent County Show, each July. However the venue also hosts many other fairs, conferences and events throughout the year. The site covers over 200 acres and has been acting as an event site for over 50 years.

For those days when the weather calls for indoor activities, there are cinemas in Herne Bay and Canterbury, and leisure centres with large swimming pools in all three towns local beaches are also very beautiful in winter.  When the skies are grey, the sea turns metallic silver; the wind whips the waves into a frenzy, and the boats' masts whistle and clang. This place is almost poetic.  Walk along the beach in winter and you'll get a true feel of raw nature; it's inspirational stuff.  Mid season prices again at Kent Cottage Holidays
