“Honey Lodge - ticks all boxes”

5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We chose Honey Lodge for a romantic weekend away on the strength of other reviews, having decided on the Whitstable area because of it's reputation for fantastic restaurants. Honey Lodge was perfect in every way. Location wise it is secluded and quiet but with a good pub about 100 metres away, was easy to find and only a £7 taxi ride into Whitstable. The facilities provided are first class, we loved the hot tub, cinema screen tv, log fire and rainforest shower as well as being impressed with the fully equipped kitchen. The overall service from Michelle and Chris was excellent and we really appreciated the welcome pack which contained essential sundries like milk and bread as well as a lovely bottle of bubbly. We had a fabulous time and left feeling totally relaxed and planning our next visit.

Once you get settled in, which takes all of about five minutes, Honey Lodge is a lovely place to unwide and relax.

We arrived at the cottage early and were pleased to be able to get in before the stated time.

The cottage was nice and we were pleasantly surprised by the contents of the welcome basket.

The location of the cottage meant that it was easy to get to the beach at Whitstable or to Canterbury just a few miles along the road.

We all enjoyed the use of the hot tub and the children had the use of a very safe garden.

A very enjoyable stay

Our girls also loved the tree house and ziprope (?)

We used the Hot Tub multiple times a day and although the weather was great we also used the log burner...because it is cosy...The purple couch (is that the right word?) and the big screen were wonderfull

We had a lovely time and the place were we stayed really made it special... and the welcome package is such a nice touch!

My husband, my 22mth old daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed a two night stay at Honey Cottage. The cottage is very homely and cosy and we had a great time having fun in the treehouse in the garden, hot tub and enjoying film on the big projector screen. We had a day out to the zoo nearby and also went to the beach. The cottage was very well equipped with everything we needed and we wish we could have stayed longer. We hope to go back sometime. It was our 2nd time at Honey Lodge, and the experience just gets better, so much so that I have booked a further 3 weeks at the log cabin next year! I booked the Honey Lodge for my 25th birthday with 6 of my friends and we all loved it! The pictures online do not prepare you for how beautiful and spaceous the Lodge is. With 7 people, I was worried we would get in each others way but we had plenty of space.

We all fell in love with the hot and hammock!

Very Relaxing - loved the hot tub!

We have just returned from a wonderful relaxing weekend in the sunset loft. The apartment was very clean, tidy and modern, with lovely touches made by the owners such as breakfast, wine and popcorn left for us to enjoy! The hot tub was a perfect way to unwind. The only shortcoming of Sunset Loft was the location - it was very noisy outside on the high street on the Friday night. However this didn't detract from our enjoyment of the weekend and we would definitely visit again.

Relaxing comfort

We entered Sunset Loft from a very cold Whitstable into warm and cosy surroundings. The apartment was immaculately clean. The fresh flowers were a great touch for someone who loves fresh flowers! The bed was very comfortable, we slept very well. The decor is modern without being cold. The living room wall size TV was something we had never before experienced - almost like our own cinema. All mod cons in the kitchen and all immaculate. The best thing was the hot tub which we loved - a great relaxing asset!

Michelle kept us up to date with all the booking experience and we have no complaints here.

There is a bus outside to either Whitstable (less than 1 mile I think) or Herne Bay (about 5 miles). We visited museums in both towns. Ate well at Sunday lunch at the Lobster shack, which was reasonable value. Canterbury is close by and full of places to visit - the Cathedral is expensive but well worth it.

All in all a great weekend.

   Thank you.

A perfect weekend...

I booked Sunset Loft for my brother's stag do, and it was the ideal place. Walking in we were all impressed, and loved the 96" screen in the lounge! Watching Total Wipeout in the hot tub was something I never thought I'd do... fabulous. The flat itself is modern, clean, warm and very spacious, with a well equipped kitchen, comfy sofas and a great roof terrace with a gas BBQ which we used Friday night. There are a couple of golf courses nearby, and we went clay pigeon shooting Saturday morning which was fabulous fun. All in all the weekend couldn't have gone better. Thanks to Michelle for making the booking process so very simple, and for the lovely email I received only a few hours after leaving thanking us for our stay. I would heartily recommend this place to anyone looking for either a quiet, romantic weekend away or with a group of friends for a chilled, fun weekend. Thanks again!

The Oyster lounge is a wonderful apartment where me, my wife and small baby stayed for 4 nights.

Nice atmosphere, perfect jacuzzi, well equipped kitchen (no dishwasher), washing machine, nice living room with the projector and dolby surround set and so on.

And no to forget the welcome box with food and drinks.

Located above a nice new cakery at Tankerton Road, good for a nice scone and capuccino.

Although described, there is no sea view from any room. There is from the roof, but you will only get there when the weather is really good.

We did a bit of walking and relaxing in the Whitstable area, there is far more to do than possible within a couple of days. A recommendation for sure!

Totally relaxing time away!

Honey Lodge is a beautiful place to stay, inside and outside. All the extras are provided that you would expect to find in your own home and it really feels as if you are in your own little haven away from the outside world! My husband and I picked this lodge because he has limited mobility and it worked very well from that perspective. The hot tub was a fantastic way to unwind and we enjoyed watching movies on the big screen. The only problem for us was that we were cold on the first night as we didn't know how to adjust the heating, but that was easily sorted out and the rest of the week was just perfect. “Honey Lodge”

What a lovely time,
Log fire and a glass of wine,
Children's laughter, squeals of delight,
Eyes tight shut tired at night.

Lying back in the hot tub,
Snow falling from the sky above,
Forty degrees, bubbling lights,
Gazing in wonderment at starry nights,

We've cooked and eaten everything,
Didn't have to unpack the things we bring,
It's all here utensils galore,
Not like the places we stayed at before.

It's inspiring, enlightened us to see,
It feels so natural to live in a tree,
We have travelled far and wide,
Honey lodge is the place to stay inside.

A brilliant time we have had a ball,
But don't want to spoil it and tell you all,
So a toast to Honey Lodge, Chris and Michelle,
We hope you have a sublime stay as well.

I would have loved to given everything a 5 out of 5 but just wish that we could have checked in earlier. The oyster lounge was beautiful, comfortable and homely, there were many very clever and cool touches that added to its beauty such as the ship like steering wheel used to get the ladder down, the roof terrace was magical, loved the jacuzzi and shower above, the bottle of champagne and fresh flowers on arrival, the location was great, Whitstable is a beautiful place, and the tesco store across the road was handy, and still very quiet. we have stayed with kent-cottage-holidays before and most certainly will again.

We returned to Honey Cottage for a second year: it was just as lovely as we remembered it and is good value for money for a 3 bedroom cottage. We had a cosy, relaxing girls' weekend away and the cottage was just what we needed. The welcome basket of food and the bottle of bubbly in the fridge were a nice touch. The open plan lounge / dining room / kitchen is very sociable and there's plenty of space for everyone to sit for a chat or to watch telly. The hot tub is an added bonus! The cottage was a little cold when we first arrived, but once we got the heating going it warmed up nicely and was cosy for the rest of the weekend.

I did not want to go home! The Flat is spotlessly clean and we felt straight at home as soon as we got there. There are nice touches such as flowers, Dvds, Games and a hamper with useful stuff. The hot tub and cinema size projector screen made the flat even better. The Flat is in a perfect location as it's literally a road away from the beach. First Class Holiday Apartment""Sunset Loft is located at Tankerton, approximately a mile from Whitstable. Only a 20 minute leisurely walk along the smooth surfaced beach path with fantastic views. Taxis to and from Whitstable are plentiful and there are buses too, plus numerous car parks should you choose to drive. The apartment itself is extremely well presented with all the facilities you could possibly want. Fresh flowers, soft towels, nice toiletries. The hot tub and outside deck were a real hit with our party of 5 ladies away for a birthday weekend! The apartment is lovely and cool, important bearing in mind that we went on the hottest weekend so far this year. There is some street noise if you sleep with all the windows open, but that is to be expected. There are numerous facilities immediately available outside the apartment i.e. cashpoints, take-aways, all the usual shops etc.Whitstable is just lovely. We particularly enjoyed Harbour Street where all the 'one off' shops are, everything from the handmade cheese shop, cup cakes shop, galleries, homestyle shops etc. Plus there is a nice market syle area on the harbour front and if you like sea food then you will be in heaven. Our favourite restaurant was Birdies, which whilst on the expensive side, served top quality food.Mrs Dunning the owner was very nice to deal with, and was quick to answer any questions or changes to booking that we had. I felt that nothing was too much trouble.I would certainly recommend Sunset Loft to all my friends and relatives and we are checking our diaries so that we can rebook for next year!Elaine July 2010"

Honey Lodge was exactly as described and more! Set in a rural location, this is the perfect holiday for getting away from it all! The hot tub and 100" cinema screen just perfected the holiday. I was so sorry to go, and wished I could have stayed longer. I was so impressed with the cleaniness of the cabin - I would highly recommend to all! The personal touches, such as the flowers, wine and shopping essentials were very thoughtful of the owners, and very much appreciated! I would, without doubt, holiday at Honey Lodge again - but for longer next time. I am looking forward to experiencing my week at Sunset Loft in October (and counting down the days!) I highly recommend The Rose In Bloom Pub and Restaurant (especially if you have children) which is situated in Joy Lane, Seasalter. I also recommend Long Reach Pub and Restaurant as a second choice. I was also highly impressed with the comfort of the Honey Lodge, and the spaciousness of the family room (which sleeps 5), yet we were not cramped. Druidstone Wildlife Park, which is just 2 driveways from Honey Lodge is also a good place to visit if you have young children. Out of 10, I would give Honey Lodge a definite 11!!!! xx"

Had excellent time at the Lodge and Cottage. Children and adults loved the hot tubs. Managed to keep numerous children occupied all weekend with the hot tub allowing parents to relax. Tree house good fun but steps quite steep for small children under 4 and need to keep an eye on them.

Suggestions for children's activity to be constructed in the cottage garden maybe a big slide, padded plastic, will keep them occupied for ages (Had to rescue cover to the hot tub in Lodge garden from being used like this...

Lodge is beautiful inside and much more spacious than looks in photos. Good space to socialise in. Would definitely recommend it for family occasion

this is an outstanding place to stay, we loved every minute of our holiday. close to Canterbury, and the lovely town of whitstable we were not short of things to do. had no problem keeping our 2 year old busy. garden was fantastic and hot tub was out of this world , great in the rain too (you just gotta try it ). the cottage is so homely you certainly wont feel out of place , very comfy and very pretty.
a big thank you to Chris and Michelle for hospitality .

Thoroughly enjoyable week in Kent

We found Honey cottage well appointed and ideal for our stay. There were 6 of us, my wife Elaine, my two daughters and their boyfriends and myself.
We have visited Kent before so we new about the good weather and pleasant countryside. We visited Whitstable, Hearn bay, Broadstairs and Margate. Broadstairs was our favourite local location. Cantabury was a particularly favourite with the shopping half of our party.Going further afield we visited Hastings and Battle, which we did not allow enough time for. Brighton was also very nice as we had a Italian meal there that was very reasonable.
Us lads,I include myself, took our bikes so when things were quiet or shopping trips were in hand we took to the local woods and surrounding villages for some exercise.
We looked forward to watching England play on the big screen in the cottage, although that did not quite go to plan. The hot tub and barbeque were also well used. All in all it was a very comfortable stay.We would certainly return.

Well equipped cottage...

After the initial glitches where we could not communicate with either Michelle or Chris on arriving at the Honey Cottage, it was quite an awesome experience. From finding the key in something that seemed almost like a crystal maze hunt to entering the house which seemed nothing less than a well earned reward, the whole experience wa quite enriching!
I travelled with my spouse and two and a half friends with various levels of expectation and needs. What impressed us all was the way Michelle and Chris have equipped the cottage so completely that it made coming back after a long day full of activities in Canterbury or Whitstable an equally exciting prospect if not more... From the cinema screen to the barbeque, Jacuzzi and the tree house, there was everything that one could aspire for in a cottage. We spent six nights at the cottage and were pleased with its proximity to a pub, the bus station and a convenience store within 800 meters of distance.
The only downside that I could think of is the lack of proper doorway to bring in or take out luggage, which becomes a bit cumbersome, given the narrow and high stepped entrance, that too in absence of any assistance. If perhaps a ramp could be made from behind for the luggage, that would make life easy for guests coming in.
In all a good experience and highly recommended stay for anybody visiting Canterbury with family/friends and looking for a home away from home...

excellent Midweek Break

We had a very relaxing four days in the Cabin, excellent touches like individual toiletries for us both plus the welcome pack was amazing. It was brilliant being able to order both Indian and Chinese takeaways and have them delivered (both were delicious) the local shop is just a 10 minute walk up the road where you can buy fresh bread etc. the cabin has everything you can think of to make a perfect holiday,
we will definitely be going again

Superb!

The Honey Lodge is a beautiful, luxurious holiday home, which we have enjoyed for 2

wonderful weeks. It is spacious and has the comfort of a hotel because of the linen and towels which are provided. On top of that, it has a well equipped, modern kitchen and a great hot tub on the veranda for relaxation after a day of tourist outings.

We also appreciated the garden with a large trampoline for the children, as well as the view of the field behind the Lodge. A visit from a peacock, a squirl and a rabbit proved the blending into nature of this holiday destination :-)

For many, the huge TV/DVD cinema screen will probably be an asset, although we hardly used it as we do not watch allot of TV or films. However, the Hot Tub was used daily, often even twice a day or more!!

So thank you very much, Michelle and Chris, you are wonderful people.

relaxation!

This was a much needed holiday and we had a fantastic time. The hot tub was fantastic, even if it was chilly outside it did not matter. the apartment is so nice we spent a few days just staying there, watching movies on the 96 inch projector screen which was fab! handy butchers only a minutes walk away for meat for a BBQ, and tesco for everyday needs.
I for one would love to come again!

—------------------------------------------------------

Mid Week Break

We had a lovely break at sunset loft. The weather was fabulous which meant we could really enjoy the great location close to Tankerton Beach and Whitstable. The apartment was comfortable and spotlessly clean with lovely touches like sparkling wine and essentials provided for our arrival. Our only issue was the traffic noise (mostly in the front bedrooms) from the road outside; it normally died down by 11pm. The road is not too busy and this was not a massive issue but it did take a little bit of getting used to.

"The description and the photos on the web site made me really want to stay at Honey Cottage and we were not disappointed! My Mum is wheelchair bound and the owners provided a ramp for easy access and made sure the bedrooms were made up so we were all really comfortable. Everything had been thought of to make us and our holiday special with many thoughtful touches from the welcome hamper to the hand cream and tissues in every room. We loved the fire and I could stay in the hot tub forever, it really does make all your cares and any aches and pains fade away."

Spotlessly clean, really well decorated apartment with finishing touches such as the hot tub and extra large TV screen which you rarely see offered in other self catering facilities.
Fully complemented with fresh flowers and a welcome basket of goodies.
Great location - easy beach walk into Whitstable and Tesco metro for your wine and pringles!

We stayed here for a weekend in June as a surprise for my partners 30th and what a great weekend it was we had a truly amazing time. We felt very much at home and cosy. The hot tub was superb and very romantic at night looking at the stars. The bed was extremely comfortable and we did not want to come home after a very relaxing and refreshing stay. We took a lovely walk to the beach and the shops we also had some great meals in the tapas and a french style restaurant. We will most definitely come back again and hopefully very soon. Michelle was great and made our stay perfect x

Thanks so much Michelle. We had a great time at sunset loft, the welcome basket and flowers were lovely. The terrace, hot tub and gas BBQ were amazing. We had a fantastic seafood feast as the fish markets are just a walk away. I would recommend sunset loft and will definitely be returning.

Review Title : 381452 - "Perfect Weekend Break"

"My boyfriend and I booked a long weekend in Honey Cottage as a belated Christmas present to ourselves, and we had a wonderful time.

The cottage is beautiful; traditional features like low beams and a roaring fire complimented by modern touches like a cinema screen and fully equipped kitchen. The welcome pack was a lovely surprise; tea, coffee, breakfast cereals and chocolates, with milk, OJ and a bottle of bubbly in the fridge and fresh flowers on the table. We wound down after our journey by enjoying the bubbly in the hot tub - the cold weather outside made it all the more relaxing.

We spent some time in Whitstable, which is a lovely town with great seafood restaurants. We also headed out to Seasalter where we had a truly memorable dinner at The Sportsman - very highly recommended.

And even though we had heavy rain on one day of our stay, the cinema screen and selection of DVDs kept us occupied - as did the local pub which did a great Sunday roast! We came back home after three days refreshed and relaxed.

Highly recommended... we will definitely be back to Honey Cottage.

(Note: We don't have a car, and found getting around by public transport and taxi very easy indeed as the cottage is so close to Canterbury and Whitstable)"

My group of girls wanted a quiet weekend away without the children and Honey Cottage was just perfect. The facilities were great - perfectly adequate kitchen (although a dishwasher would have been nice!), great hot tub to brush the cobwebs away in the morning. We spent all day shopping and then returned to the cottage, collapsed and watched all the reality TV we could manage (whilst taping some on Sky+ - an excellent feature).

I would definitely recommend the cottage to my friends - great value for money.

-------------------------------

As soon as we walked through the door of Honey Cottage i knew i had struck gold! It was exactly as was described and as i had imagined it, if not better and we felt immediately at home and welcomed. The owners clearly care not only about their property but also about the people who stay there, taking each booking separately and preparing a welcome pack of goodies to suit. The cottage was clean and fully equipped with everything you would need for any length of stay. The log fire was wonderful and really got us feeling relaxed and Christmassy and the hot tub....well....i want one!! It was so exhilarating to relax in the gorgeous warm water while it was so cold outside. All that was missing was a view of the Canadian Rockies!!We went for a lovely meal at The Pearson's Arms in Whitstable which i would highly recommend. The food was extremely tasty and there was a great atmosphere in the restaurant and in the bar downstairs. We also did some Christmas shopping and sightseeing in Canterbury which is a lovely town and a wander round the stunning cathedral is well worth the effort. While in Canterbury treat yourself to an afternoon tea at Tiny Tim's Tearooms. It's the whole 3 tiered platter affair and rather yummy!I would absolutely advise anyone who is lucky enough to find this property to book it and visit as soon as possible because they will not be disappointed, in fact, im sure they will feel very glad, as i do, to have found such a little gem!"

Second family holiday with our now toddler, great place to stay with children all on one level so that helps with a toddler. Welcome basket wonderful again, champagne a much needed drink after a long journey. Again very clean and tidy and a nice added surprise of the travel cot for our little one. Will definitely be booking again. Recommend the pub up the road only 30 seconds walk away very handy and Whitstable is great for exploring and shopping.

The house is quaint and comfortable with easy reach to Whitstable or Canterbury. As the house is not in the town however it is a peaceful holiday residence. The garden is amazing. Our kids lived in the hot tub night and day. Us adults had to book virtually to get a turn. The tree house was a perfect fun hideaway for them. What made the holiday really special was the way the owners accommodated our needs, They were friendly and attentive and left us a wonderful basket of goodies on our arrival. Our kids can't wait to go back next year.

Everything about this holiday was excellent, the cottage just gave us as a family to spend quality time in a peaceful and quiet location. The cottage was clean and quiet, the sofa was fantastic and access to the internet a massive bonus. We have already recommended to friends and family, and they also remarked at how relaxed and well we looked. Michelle and Chris were very welcoming and helpful with a welcoming basket that was so generous and well selected. The hot tub was a massive hit with the kids, if only they would shower/bath at the same rate that they jumped in there! We were able to explore nearby places and Canterbury was a big hit with the kids, Canterbury tales, the river, the Cathedral all accommodated our blind son without fuss or commotion, We had a really great holiday and we will be back, hopefully next August. We have just returned from a lovely week at Honey Cottage.
The cottage itself was clean and cosy and even included a welcome goody basket!
My two little girls aged 6 years and 14 months had a brilliant time in the garden; there is a fantastic hot tub and tree house and lovely seating to enjoy a glass of wine!
The cinema screen was great to use in the evenings.
The location is great for lots of places; Whitstable which was lovely (the whitstable oyster company on the seafront is a must!), Canterbury, Herne Bay & Howletts Zoo. There is even an animal park Druidstone Park 2 minutes down the road.
I would definately recommend Honey Cottage!

I treated my partner to celebrate our engagement, we had an amazing stay at this property, not only was it in a beautiful setting, it was clean, comfortable and had bags of character. We both spent three hours relaxing in the hot tub with a couple of bottles of bubbley, it was a clear night and you could see every star in the sky. There is a nice pub just up the road and you are only a 5 minute drive from whitstable.
Very lovely stay and we will be reccommending to all our friends and family.
Even in the winter months, the hot tub is a must so take your trunks!!

We just returned from 10 day holiday at Honey Cottage. We were very happy with the cottage, exactly as described and with everything you need in working order.

We were very happy when we get to the cottage, from a long trip, because we find welcome package, and it was very nice because we were kind of tired and hungry. The nice touch was also the flowers.

Because we came from Slovenia, we were a lot around and I must admit it is perfect location, there are nice towns around and some lovely coats too, we even went to London twice by train.

Michelle was very nice, helped in every way we needed instantly so I really recommend this property to everyone.

"In short, this was a wonderful property, which provided us with everything we could possibly need for a fabulous week away. The long (deservedly gushing) version is that my partner and I usually head for "hot tub cottages" when we're able to take a short break, and despite all of our experiences being fantastic, this is the first we have decided to repeat at our earliest opportunity! The property truly felt like home - beautifully kept, filled with modern tech and an unexpected array of snacks and treats! The furniture was immensely comfortable, and the lovely toiletries in the bathroom rendered my poor washbag semi-redundant! We were undisturbed for the entire visit, which (at risk of unintentionally sounding very anti-social!) is not something you would get to enjoy in a standard hotel or apartment - late to bed and late to rise was a luxurious change to the daily grind. Abacus Cabs took us in and out of Whitstable for dinner, namely to The Crab & Winkle and Pearsons Arms restaurants, both of which we highly recommend. A week just wasn't long enough. Thanks to Michelle and Chris for keeping such a high standard of holiday home."

"Honey Cottage was exactly as described,clean-tidy and with everything you need supplied and in working order.
The hot tub is great for relaxing in later on in the day ,when we laid back, and relaxed basking in the still warm sun , sipping a chilled glass of very acceptable sparkling wine, which comes courtesy of the owners along with a large welcome basket of other goodies, and essentials that meen you dont have to go shopping straight away or bother taking it with you.

If you enjoy watching television or a DVD later on in the day(or anytime) then you will also love the high quality ,huge Sony home cinema screen set up.

The cottage is situated within easy reach of Whitstable or Cantebury, by car, walking or if you preffer there is a very regular bus service that stops just a miniute away.

If you do like walking then a Public Footpath is seconds away from the cottage which takes you into the ancient and very beautifull Blean Forest.

If you like eating out and you love seafood, then Whitstable is seafood heaven.
Go to the fish market down by the harbour where you can buy a huge range of fantastically fresh fish and shellfish.
And where else can you buy half a dozen oysters for around £4 opened in front you, lemon. tabasco, what more can i say. Lots actually, Whitstable has some of the best fish restaurants in euroupe, and Wheelers in the high st is very good, you are really spoilt for choice.

I would have no problem reccommending Honey Cottage to anyone- book now!.
We dealt with Michelle, and the customer service was 5 star, any questions we had speedily dealt with, and our deposit returned the day after leaving."

We had a really great and relaxing weekend, perfect for what we wanted! The cottage was easy to find and very clean and tidy. It offered everything you could need inside and out and the welcome pack was a great extra. There was ample space for us inside and the treehouse and hot tub were such a bonus. We were given great customer service and were contacted back very quickly before our stay if we had any questions that needed answering. The booking and information was simple and hassle-free. The property was beautiful and quaint, decorated tastefully and really cosy. The hot-tub was enjoyed by all and the welcome pack was beyond anything I have had before. It included chocolates, champagne, jams, eggs and everything else needed to keep you going! Canterbury was only 5 minutes away for the best shopping that side of Kent so plenty to keep us occupied! Overall a very enjoyable experience that we all agreed would like to repeat and will definitely
